How can we support women, help them take on leadership, and build their confidence within the field?
1) Recognize Diversity
Look at a company with a 50/50 mindset.
This is ideally a workplace where everyone is equally valued, respected, and appreciated, and not put down for who they are, specifically for being a woman in the career.
Respect each others differences and learn from them.
To promote women of color in the field, a diverse community of women should be brought together from all races within a tech company. When more women of color are brought into the workforce, they feel more comfortable talking to others, networking, and creating support systems, where they can express themselves.
Women, no matter their background should equally be respected for who they are and should be given the same amount of opportunities as everyone else.
2) Learn
To help promote and empower women in technology, it's important to stay in the loop for recent issues about women in tech. This can be done by reading the latest news articles, maganizines, books, blogs, and more revolved around women in tech workforce.
3) Nominate Women, Opportunities for Women
To promote and increase the growth of women in technology, empower them to use their voices within a company. This can be done by offering more opportunities for leadership to women.
Small acts of kindness every day will also help women feel more confident in the field. For example, recognize women for an appreciable act.
4) Raise Awareness
Listening to some female colleagues or friends about their experiences in tech can help create more awareness amongst the population about the lack of women in the field.
Educate others on the challenges that women face going into a tech career, and tell them about the various ways that we can help make a difference for them in the field.
5) Spread the News
Some young women and girls may not realize that a career in technology might be something that they will really enjoy. If you have had experience within technology as a woman, spread the news and help them learn about what the amazing tech field has to offer.
Support and mentorship creates strength amongst women to rise even more within the field.
6) Create Inclusive and Supportive Communities
Create a supportive and inclusive community for women in technology by being flexible, and understanding of who they are and their lives outside of their tech career.
Offer mentorship, and various opportunities as much as possible.
Women need to feel empowered to use their voices within a technology company. Support from everyone is crucial. This can be done by organizing events, workshops, summits, meetings, and more to increase the leadership of women within the field.
